Over 100 years ago, Penny Fitzpatrick's grandfather opened a bar in the village of Killeaney on the Aran Islands, unaware that the island's airport would eventually be a few fields away. This long 2 storey bar and lounge with adjacent guesthouse looks on to Teampall Beanann, which dates back to 846 A.D. and reputedly the smallest church in Europe. Penny extended and refurbished the house a few years ago, creating a luxurious bed and breakfast with great views. Children are welcome and under-3s stay free.
Rooms
The rooms of the Tigh Fitz Bed and Breakfast are designed for luxury. All rooms are en-suite with shower. Each room boasts stunning Atlantic views and comes equipped with tea/coffee making facilities, TV and direct line phones.
Food and Beverage
Meals are served in the Tigh Fitz Restaurant. The food is of a very good quality. Menus have a broad appeal and include exotic international cuisine, but the restaurant is most notable for fish, bought from a local fisherman, and a speciality Aran-style bouillabaisse.
Area
Tigh Fitz Bed and Breakfast is located on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands in Galway Bay. The island is famous for its strong Irish culture and dedication to the Irish language. There are a wealth of Pre-Christian and Christian ancient sites including Dún Aengus, described as "the most magnificent barbaric monument in Europe" by George Petrie. Private minibuses, horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are the main methods of travel on this charming and tranquil island.
